Using Acoustic Travel Time to Monitor the Heat Variability of Glacial Fjords

چکیده
Abstract Monitoring the heat content variability of glacial fjords is crucial to understanding effects oceanic forcing on marine-terminating glaciers. A Pressure-sensor equipped Inverted Echo Sounder (PIES) was deployed mid-fjord in Sermilik Fjord southeast Greenland from August 2011 September 2012 alongside a moored array instruments recording temperature, conductivity and velocity. Historical hydrography used quantify relationship between acoustic travel time vertically-averaged content, new method developed for filtering return echoes an ice-influenced environment. We show that PIES measurements, combined with knowledge fjord’s two-layer density structure, can be reconstruct thickness temperature inflowing water. Additionally, we find fjord-shelf exchange events are identifiable record implying monitor fjord circulation. Finally, data records derive upper layer where at great risk being damaged by transiting icebergs.

Characteristics and dynamics of two major Greenland glacial fjords
The circulation regimes of two major outlet glacial fjords in southeastern Greenland, Sermilik Fjord (SF) and Kangerdlugssuaq Fjord (KF), are investigated using data collected in summer 2009. The two fjords show similar flow patterns, with a time-dependent, vertically sheared flow structure dominating over the background estuarine flow driven by buoyancy input. We show that this time-dependent ...

متن کاملassessment of the efficiency of s.p.g.c refineries using network dea
data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...
Time-lapse travel time change of multiply scattered acoustic waves
Existing techniques in correlation spectroscopy, such as coda wave interferometry and diffusing acoustic wave spectroscopy, determine the average motion of scatterers or change in the propagation velocity from the temporal change of multiply scattered sound. However, neither of them gives an indication of the spatial extent of the change in the medium. This study is an extension of the techniqu...
